Sadaqah/Charity
is an essential part of Islamic ideology.
The Qur'an states: 'And be steadfast in your prayer and
pay charity; whatever good you send forth for your future,
you shall find it with Allah, for Allah is well aware of
what you do' (2:110). Prophet
Muhammad (SAS) said "No wealth (of a servant of Allah) is
decreased because of charity." (Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith No.
2247).
The Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) told us that
every man will be shaded by his charity on the Day of
Resurrection, the day on which the sun will be brought
close to people’s heads until Allah passes judgment
between them. Narrated by Ahmad, 16882; classed as
saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 4510.
What this
means is that whatever a person eats is that which is gone
and no longer remains, but that which he gives in charity
is what will remain for him with Allah and he will benefit
from it on the Day of Resurrection. This Hadith is a
reference to the verse in which Allah says (interpretation
of the meaning):
“Whatever is
with you, will be exhausted, and whatever is with Allah
(of good deeds) will remain” [al-Nahl 16:96]
The Qur'an
encourages the Muslim to donate their funds: 'the
likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of
Allah, is as the likeness of a grain that sprouts seven
spikes. In every spike there are 100 grains, and Allah
multiplies for whom He wills' (2:261).
So hasten to give charity and
strive to make your charity ongoing, so that you may
benefit from it after death. We ask Allah to help us to do
that which He loves and which pleases Him.
