Tameer-e-Millat Model School for Girls
Chak # 20, Gagh, Tehsil Shorkot, Distt.
Jhang |
Wavering our flag in district Jhang
Among the oldest districts and having rich cultural
background, Jhang is a fast developing district of
Punjab province. Covering an area of 8,809 sq.km,
district Jhang is subdivided in to Chiniot, Jhang
and Shorkot tehsils.
Shorkot was given the status of tehsil in 1861.
“Shorkot” is emerged from “Shor,” meaning saline and
water logging. This name was given due to its barren
and devoid land. But the
problem was resolved and a
new irrigation system was introduced by the
government. According to which a network of cemented
canals was spread throughout the District Jhang. Now
Shorkot is the biggest wheat growing tehsil of Jhang.
Consisting of mainly the poor community of peasants,
the district population is confined to the old
traditions of feudal lords. The deep rooted feudal
system has paved the way downhill to the country.
Absolutely against the education, the history is
evidence of stories of such feudal lords who have
suppressed those who raised their voice for
education. Comprised of 2 million population,
district Jhang has as low as 37 percent literacy
rate.
Changing the mindset
Then came the turn around when the son of soil, Dr.
Shams Uddin Rana who is currently doing his
pulmonary medicine practice in Binghamton, NY took
the initiative during his student age to help the
community in getting the government owned land and
established one primary school for girls and boys
each. Besides sheer difficulties he faced, his
persistent efforts and commitment to his mission has
made it possible to change the mind set of people of
the area.
Girls' education - a lifeline to development
For an educated woman might have the chance of
healthier and happier life should have a reason
enough for promoting girls' education. However there
are important benefits associated with her education
for the society as a whole. Keeping the same idea in
mind, Dr. Shams Uddin Rana has taken the initiative
and donated one acre land to Tameer-e-Millat
Foundation in his native village, Chak # 20, Gagh,
20km away from Shorkot city for the establishment of
Tameer-e-Millat Model School for Girls. The
construction & operational responsibilities of the
school will be managed by TMF.
Education scenario of the backward village like Gagh
where women are deprived of their right to
education, there is a dire need to establish such an
institute that focuses on the female education for
provision of all the educational needs under one
roof.
Tameer-e-Millat Model School will provide education
to girls upto higher secondary level. The school
will be the best of its kind in providing the modern
educational requisites like library, science,
computer and home economics laboratories as well as
sports facilities. As the school will be located in
a distant locality, out side the city, so provision
of transport for the female teachers will be the
added value.
