Providing quality primary education to the children of marginalized communities is the main priority of Tameer-e-Millat Foundation (TMF). Continuing its tradition of opening new schools every year, TMF organized the inauguration of The Maria-Helena Tameer-e-Millat Primary School (in the memory of Mehar Muhammad Tarrar) in Village Dandka, Tehsil Phalia, District Mandi Bahaudin, province Punjab on Monday, February 10, 2014.
The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Ahmad Tarrar, a close friend of Dr. Zaheer Ahmad (late founder of TMF) and donor of the land for the school. He paid rich tribute to Dr. Zaheer for his tremendous services in the field of education and healthcare.
Vice Chairperson TMF, Dr. Samea K. Ahmad, General Secretary TMF, Professor Basharat Ahmad, Chancellor Shifa Tamer-e-Millat University, Dr. Muhammad Ata, and former General Secretary TMF, Mirza Habibullah attended the event while the Chairman TMF, F.M. Rashid, honored the event as chief guest. Inauguration of the school was followed by a small ceremony in which the guests addressed the audience. In the far-flung rural area of Dandka, nearly 300 male and female representatives of the local community attended the ceremony which shows their commitment to education despite the scarcity of resources. Addressing the audience, all the speakers highlighted the role of schools in the important cause of strengthening the moral and ethical values of students at initial stages of their lives.
“The objective of primary education is to prepare the children in such a way that they transform into a leading role model for others; thus it becomes obligatory for all the education institutes not to leave any stone unturned in order to achieve this objective”, said Dr. Samea.
F.M. Rashid, Dr. Samea and Mirza Habibullah highlighted the efforts of The Maria-Helena Foundation (MHF) - sponsor of the school construction - for promoting primary education in South Asia, especially in Pakistan. MHF - through its implementing partner, TMF - is committed to build a primary school every year in Pakistan to improve the literacy rate of the region.
Lastly all the participants and guests prayed for the growth of school by leaps and bounds.
