A Joint Venture of Tameer-e-Millat Foundation,
Shifa Foundation and Shifa International Hospital
Islamabad
Education
continues to be a national priority. While higher
education receives high praise and is placed on the
public's honor role, until 2006, there were only 49
public and 36 private universities in Pakistan. The
number is too small as compared to increased demand
of Higher Education in the country.
TMF in collaboration with its sister
charitable organization, Shifa Foundation,
has taken up the responsibility of establishing
Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU) at
Islamabad. The proposal to establish STMU has been
approved by the Federal Cabinet meeting held on
February 15, 2006. Now with the taking over of new
government the bill will be introduced in the
Parliament for legislation to establish STMU.
Shifa Foundation is already providing quality
education to prepare future physicians and nursing
professionals through Shifa College of Medicine
(recognized by PMDC) and Shifa College of Nursing.
These medical institutes will also get affiliated
with the STMU. The university once operational will
also launch additional programs such as Masters,
M.Phil and Doctorate in various disciplines.
STMU will surely be a step forward in Higher
Education sector in Pakistan which would further add
significantly towards faculty development and
knowledge based on scientific research.
