This year marks the 27th anniversary of our founding. As chairman of Tameer-e-Millat Foundation, I am pleased to report that 2014 proved to be another rewarding year filled with progress and development for TMF.
Pakistan has the world's sixth largest population at about 185 million people and one in every four citizens is poor. With a national literacy rate of 56% (67% for men, 42% for women), Pakistan has one of the largest illiterate populations in the world. Without adequate education, our people face a life of poverty, unemployment, hopelessness and despair.
Since inception, TMF's mission is to catalyze positive socio-economic change in Pakistan by providing quality education, raising literacy standards, and ultimately addressing poverty in communities throughout Pakistan.
There is a tremendous spirit of collaboration and determination within TMF to make a lasting difference in the lives of millions of people. There are also many, many powerful stories of success emerging from the many communities in which we have worked and partnered with global and local organizations. Throughout this report, you will read such testimonials.
With Allah's blessings and your continued support, I would like to highlight the success we have had on the skill development of the rural youth in 2014:
1. The first two batches of TMIT Khewra, Tehsil P.D.Khan, successfully completed Diploma in Associate Engineering (DAE) in Electronics. All students achieved A grade in their results.
2. The rural youth of the deprived districts of Punjab successfully completed 6-12 month technical courses held in TMIT Fateh Jang.
3. Village women were also made skillful through DAE in Dress Designing and Making in TMIT Fateh Jang. They were also provided respectable job opportunities in Industrial Home.
My sincere thanks to my fellow board members for their guidance and support, to the TMF staff for their tireless efforts, and to our partners for their cooperation and inspiration. We hope that you will continue to support our cause and take an active role in our projects.
May Allah guide us and accept our efforts in this humanitarian cause. Ameen.
